Duration: 3 to 6 months, Spring/Summer 2019
Are you looking for a way to use your creativity and fantastic media-creation and marketing skills to help teen girls* who need to understand how media affects them and what to do about it? How about getting insight into how a nonprofit program works and markets itself? Great! About-Face is looking for a highly creative, driven, and enthusiastic intern.
College students and early professionals/career-changers are encouraged to apply. Note that internships are unpaid. We prefer that interns be eligible for credit or hours through their school or university for this internship. This internship will be most suitable for credit in public relations, marketing, graphic design, communications, and gender studies programs.

Timeline and time commitment: This internship will ideally take place from May through August 2019, minimum of 8 hours per week (also depends on any requirements your internship may need to meet).
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL:
— already be steeped in mainstream media targeted to teen girls and young women
— be a regular user of Instagram and other social media
— have experience creating high-quality graphics, resizing images, making videos, etc. (not necessarily in a professional setting)
— have strong copywriting and other writing skills
— have a strong ability to prioritize tasks and projects
— be interested in how media affects women, (self-identified) girls, and gender expansive youth
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Report to Jennifer Berger, Executive Director
Duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
Helping manage website content
— Writing/editing blog pieces, Galleries, and other website content
— Completing web updates
— Improving design of some pages
— Overhauls or major updates of specific areas of our site
— Working with our social media consultant (who posts for us) and Executive Director to coordinate content in campaigns (social media, email, etc.)
— Help recruit for and promote our programs via digital media
— Using Canva or other visual creation tools to make GIFs, social media and email graphics
— Organize our large library of photos and other assets so they are easily accessed
— Assist in creation of our monthly video
— Ideating on new content to engage our audiences (teen girls*, their parents and teachers, and other adult About-Face supporters)
* To us, “girls” means cisgender and self-identified girls, and non-binary youth who identify with the topics we address.

We aim to respond by 7 business days after you apply, when we may ask you to interview in person at our San Francisco office, or via phone or video conference. At that time, you may also be asked to provide contact information for three references. If you’re a finalist, we’ll also send you our brand guidelines and ask you to create two samples (piece of writing and an image, for example).
