About-Face is a Bay Area organization that equips women and girls with tools to understand and resist harmful media that affects their self-esteem and body image. We lead media-literacy workshops in schools and community organizations, enable young women to take action, and provide our incredible web site, About-Face.org.
Why About-Face? A message from VoluptuArt’s owner, Nomi Dekel.
Some time in the mid-1990s, I attended probably one of the first About-Face presentations. About-Face’s founder, Kathy Bruin, was presenting, and I found myself in awe of her courage and deeply grateful to her. Through my work as a psychotherapist, I have been facilitating body image groups and workshops for over 20 years. I know the pain of body hatred through my work with clients and my own journey of body dissatisfaction as a fat woman. The work About-Face is doing has inspired many women and girls to speak up, and to challenge what we see and think. I want to be part of making sure About-Face continues to have the funds and resources they need to speak up even louder! One of the reasons I created VoluptuArt — Art & Gifts for Celebrating Your Body! is so that I could collaborate with others who are doing this necessary and imperative work. I know you’ll be glad you took the time to join us on Sunday, October 19.

At 1:30pm and 3pm, we will have short demonstrations of About-Face’s groundbreaking Education Into Action Media Literacy workshop for young women ages 13 through 25!
