I do think it's great that Kate Winslet doesn't think she has to be rail-thin to be attractive. But someone who knows she's a role model to young girls could do better than to drop her clothes in major motion pictures.

I, too, am so pleased with Kate Winslet. Hollywood constantly conveys that I must have Keira Knightley high cheekbones, Jessica Alba’s flat stomach, Uma Thurman’s long lithe legs, Angelina Jolie’s full exquisite lips, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s toothpaste smile in order to be considered beautiful. It is ridiculous. And, these are just some of the women who are constantly plastered on magazine covers as a symbol of beauty today.

All of these women sport the reed thin figure. They are not only ultra thin but their images are also photoshopped and digitally altered to be blemish free. THEY are not even the impossible standard of beauty that their magazine pictures convey. (The woman I’m, apparently, supposed to identify with.)

For there to be any real change more actresses like Kate Winslet need to speak out, more advertising in the vein of the "Dove - Campaign for Real Beauty" commercials needs to occur, and more public pressure definitely needs to be applied. As long as people continue to purchase tabloid and Hollywood print magazines that celebrate the extremely thin doctored camera shot of the ultimate size zero body (a clear manipulation of reality) the more this distortion of beauty will continue to perpetuate.

I am thrilled to hear this! I wish this sort of thing was more widely publicized in America. She is a beautiful woman and a talented actress...it's not a coincedence that she doesn't have to flaunt herself in public or be bone thin to get quality roles an gain notariety.

I completely agree. It's unfortunate that women who take a stand in the media are often looked down upon and are not viewed as being as 'sexy' as their thinner counterparts. Thank God for the few who wear their bodies with pride.

I love her! She is damn right when she says she is a role model to young women. She stated somewhere that she made a point not to lose weight before filming Little Children, cause she was going to have a nude scene and wanted the public to see what a normal female body looks like. YOU ROCK KATE!!
