a tangent: i will admit that i watch the t.v show america's next top model, but i take comfort in watching this particular program for the same reason this dove ad demonstrates the beauty myth. As viewers we are able to see the before and after of each photo shoot. What the model once looked like, and how manipulative camera work, make-up, lighting and so forth really is in seemingly capturing the beauty of these women. Another thing, Tyra Banks promotes black models, as well as plus size women. So it's kind of interesting to have somewhat of an insider's perspective of what modeling is about.

i think this video is amazing and i wish they showed this on tv more often so girls can see how their "idols" are probably not as beautiful as they think. i thought the women looked pretty at the beginning of the commercial but by the end she actually looked scary.

This is the first time I've been to your site and I watched the little clip, thinking it isn't as shocking as described but it angered me to tears. What bothers me more than the trickery behind it is people's acceptance of it. And it makes me ask myself why do we do this to each other? It dims my point of view on all of our state of minds. But, in order to make myself feel a little better...a possible positive outcome: eventually they'll probably get rid of models all together and use animations or robots. Women won't be subjected to this kind of work any more, but well, the image of women would still be pretty degrading most likely. Anyway, as you can see....I'm having a hard time with this issue.

It just illuminates the fact that most of the ideals that we pine over don't actually exist. Scary, huh?

That's crazy that they acually put that fatasized idea of idealism on display! And it is scary that they do.

Wow. This was really amazingly scary...yet fascinating at the same time. I am very interested in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry, although not an actress. I'm "wowed" by the way people can alter others' looks--airbrushing, make-up, everything that has to do with editing. After seeing this Dove video, I know that I have to make sure that I'm not ruining girl's self-esteem by portraying someone who basically isn't a real human being and instead, a computerized, edited, picture. Thank you for being involved in changing people's way of thinking.

I loved this ad. I hate the perceptions girls have about beauty and their bodies. I'm glad Dove, and other companies are starting to address it and look for real women and not airbrushed, photoshopped, fakes. Thank you Dove!
