About-Face’s Take Action program rocked in December!
On December 20, 2008, seven young women from the San Francisco Bay Area took to San Francisco’s Powell BART station to speak out about negative media messages and receive positive support from their community. This event was the result of About-Face’s Take Action program, which brought the girls together for three sessions to teach them about body image, self-esteem and media literacy. The young women then created their own action — brainstorming and refining their idea. What happened next? Watch the video below to find out!
The results: When we evaluated the girls, we found that the Take-Action Group improved the girls’ self-esteem, ability to resist and think critically about negative media messages, and body satisfaction.
This time, the program was made possible by the Eva Leah Gunther Foundation. Make our next Take Action group possible by donating to About-Face!
